Interview Tips
Prior to the interview
- Make sure you have thoroughly researched their organization.
- Develop a list of questions directed specifically to the job for which you are applying.
- Make sure you are prepared to answer such questions as "Why should I hire you?" "Why do you want this job?" "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
- Make sure you have the appropriate attire ready before the day of the interview.
- Make sure you clarify the person(s) you will be interviewing with and make sure you know the correct pronunciation.
- Confirm the location, directions and time of the interview.
Day of Interview
- Make sure you are well groomed.
- Don’t smoke or wear lots of perfume or cologne.
- Make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your interview time.
- Don’t chew gum while interviewing.
- Be polite and use proper manners with everyone you meet.
- Make eye contact and offer a firm handshake with everyone you meet.
- Use proper language and avoid the use of slang.
- If offered to sit make sure you lean forward showing interest in the position. Never slouch.
- Do not talk about salary unless the position is offered to you. If salary is brought up, be consistent with the agreed upon salary as previously discussed with the recruiter representing you.
- Be honest; never lie.
- Make sure you ask questions about the organization and position. Do not ask questions that can easily be answered from the organizations website.
- At the end of the interview thank the interviewer for his/her time. Also, get his/her contact information i.e. business card and offer a firm hand shake.
- Most importantly, relax and have a good conversation with the interviewer.
